Trouble in Holosun Paradise

“Well that’s not right” was the all too predictable phrase that ran through my head when I saw what had happened to the MRDS situated on top of the slide of my Glock 17. This gun had been set up as my T&E departure from my normal stock Glock and Trijicon RMR setup, the Glock had several aftermarket parts installed and was equipped with a Holosun 507C V2.

I had gotten the Holosun on a good deal from Kenzie’s Optics and was about 2k rounds into thinking that I had happily found a cheaper, quality alternative to the Trijicon. The sight had quit functioning, not displaying a dot, towards the end of my last range session the week prior. I assumed the battery had quit as I was about at the one year point however, when I inspected the optic, I noticed a significant overhang of the bottom of the lens, out the front of the optic body. Closer inspection revealed that the lens adhesive had apparently failed and the already sloped lens had slipped completely out of joint and was protruding past the bottom cutout of the optic body itself.

It should be noted here that this weapon and optic combination has not been subjected to any accelerated wear style tests (a la Sage Dynamics) and was used in a Safariland holster while calling the range at my day job. No drops, no one hand manipulations, etc.

Due to the reputation Holosun has earned for itself, I was completely surprised and pretty bummed at my discovery. Pretty quickly thereafter, I went online to begin the RMA process through Holosun’s website.

I found the process to be very easy, their site walks you through step by step and has you upload a picture of the optic that they use in their evaluation process. One interesting point was that, should Holosun decide that my optic is in fact covered by the warranty, I was asked if I would like a replacement or if I would like to discuss upgrading my optic at a potential additional fee. I found this a curious time to upsell however, I did select that I would like to speak to them concerning the potential upgrade to compare the pricing in hopes it will be a deal.

I received an RMA via email within 24 hours and will be sending in my 507C V2 shortly. Updates to follow as the process continues.

UPDATE:

Holosun quickly processed my optic and did indeed contact me about a potential upgrade. I did not find the pricing to be as good of a deal as hoped so, I opted for a replacement. I was sent the latest version of the 507C V2 and so far so good for round 2.
